I can't really see the university itself treating people from different backgrounds differently, so really it's going to be down to the people there. All the people are going to be different, they'll have different backgrounds and be brought up with different attitudes, I can't see that you have anything to worry about though. I mean, the worst case scenario would be if you were sharing accomodation with a bunch of skinheads and even then you'd be able to move to another room.

Oh, and there ARE numerous societies for minority groups in case you feel a bit out of place.

thanks. welll that makes me feel bit better. i guess im used to sticking out coz im always the only asian in my schoool. Thats why i wondered since i hope that at uni you would meet different people from different background. Its just that i heard Keele and Staffordshire poeple tend to stick to their own kind. Is that true then because of the minority socities that exist????

It's the ethnic minorities people who stick to their own kind. I only ever see Asians working in McDonald's or their takeaways in my town.

That might be a family thing rather than a sticking-to-their-own-kind thing.

The only asian at your school? Wow. Which school did you go to? Where do you live?

I'm sure if you're open to meeting different people from different backgrounds they'll be open to meeting you too.

I'll be studying Business Economics with the Social Science Foundation Year. Im from north london, Enfield. Ya i went to a catholic school where most of the kids were black or white. Hey i went to a different schoool for sixth form where i was the only asian. Anyway even at secondary i was the only one in my year. Besides i know some asians love to stick to their own kind but i like to mix with different people its more interesting that way!!

Absolutely! Saying what I did, in the whole 7 years I was at my school/sixth form there was only one black kid there, and he was only there for 2 years. It was an all-male school, and I did notice that all the asian guys stuck together, but I think that's because they were all really popular. At the girl's school we were partnered with it was all a lot more mixed.
at ur school the asian guys were the most popular? at my secondary school we only had like 4 black people and i think 2 asian in my whole time i was there, and they fit in fine.

At sixth form we had no blacks though, i had to change school for sixth form, but alot of asians, and although many of them did stick together and not really mingle with the rest, the deputy headboy was asian and those who tried to injtegrate were fine so yer, its down to each person i think

It's multicultural. There are people at Keele from everywhere and I mean that literally.

For such a small space relatively speaking they cater for pretty much everyone. Like someone said there are societies too.

Can't wait to be back on Friday.

Judging by what I've seen on the facebook groups, there's a huge amount of ethnic tomfoolery afoot for such a small place. Taste the rainbow!

I think it's more silly whoever pulled up the thread to complain that Keele is a boring place
