Why would you refuse it when it's there to protect you?

EDIT: Think smear has gone up to 25. Breasts you examine on your own.

my bits are a bit of a no mans land - where no man has gone before. so i dont fancy having it poked around with a speculum. are you sure i dont have to have anything like this until im 25

What sort of reason is that? Surely it's better to be examined than find out too late that you've got cervical cancer?

Like I said, I'm not sure, but I think it's 25.

It's going to be highly unlikely that she'd get cervical cancer if she's never had sex.

Still. It's probably a good idea to go anyway.

Under NHS Cervical Screening Programme you are not invited for your first PAP smear until you are 25. If you have no worrying symptoms there is no need to undertake gyn exam at this point. As for breast exam you may wish to start self examination if you do not perform it already.

When you get an invitation for PAP smear it is your choice if you go or not. None can force you to undergo an examination. It is a free sociaty after all and you have responsibility over your own body.

I know the feeling, to be honest the whole idea makes me cringe, but the thing is it's to protect you, right? When it comes up I'm just gonna grit my teeth and bear it. Or I might go screaming out of the examination room. You never know 'til you try.

It's really not that bad you know.

Don't grit your teeth. It will just make you tense up and make the whole much worse. Just go for deep breathing instead .

I think it's shameful that women get such screening, meanwhile men are left with their giant cancerous prostates of doom.

GPs should offer men examination to screen for prostate cancer during routine visits.

I've never been to the doctor for a health complaint. By the time I went for a check-up, it could be to late.

No, it should operate in the same way as the cervical smear test.

I'd imagine the take-up would be minimal, mind you.

Can't you just do it in a cup, and have them analyse it for cancer cells?

Maybe it would be better if they send a specific invitations instead of waiting for a patient to turn up for the surgery and then offer the examination (mind you not all GPs routinely offer it, some wait for a patient to ask for it) but us take up is unlikely to be high it is a waste of resources. Money will be better spend on educating people why this examination is important and why is it worth turing up for a check up.

Women get specific invitations as PAP smear requires some specific tools and cannot always be performed at the GP surgery so women may be invited to attend gyn clinic instead.

I doubt they stick their fingers up patients arses for fun - I daresay if there was an easier way, they'd do it.
