history, i'd say revision and reading around the period you are doing
RS, revision, don't really think a guide is needed if your getting taught it
geography, both
Computing, both, it's tough subject so be prepared to put the work in
english, revision
german, both unless you are fluent already then just revision so you don't mess up tenses

you will need a history revision guide
you may need one for rs if you're not very strong in it, if not you will be fine using class notes and knowledge you've accumulated
you will need one for geography
i'm not sure about computing
you won't need one for english, just use class notes
you will benefit from having one in german

If you want to do well then yes and also it is better to use print outs and text books because it is written by examiners or high qualified teachers. This is also good because if you want to revise you can re read it though. Answer questions and check if they are correct. In the text books they aren't liable and everyone said they have passed with the CGP books. They are really useful look at some of these sites and see what is your comfort zone for it. My teacher at a meeting said "You should have print outs because when you revise on-line you miss sentences out"
They are useful.

History- Revision and a book may be useful. If you are on the OCR board, I'd recommend Ben Walsh's revision guide.
RS- Revision, and I don't think you'd need a guide. When I did mine my teacher gave us loads of handouts with all the information already on. If you do find that you need a guide, I'd recommend the CGP Philosophy and Ethics books.
Geography- Didn't do Geography. I did see people using the CGP books for this though.
Computing- Didn't do Computing.
English- Revision, not necessarily a book but do lots of practice papers. For English Literature you might want the York Notes of the books you are studying.
German- I didn't do German, but I did French instead. Revision, but you don't really need a book. Some of the best things to do are practicing vocab, get used to listening to people speaking German like you would in the listening exam and do lots of past papers.
