Gcse law negligence

Hi, bit confused regarding remoteness of damage and negligence. When somebody is trying to prove remoteness of damage, they can either rely on the Wagon Mound 1961 (the specific kind of damage was too remote) or the egg shell skull principle (one must take their victims as they find them). How do you know what one to apply in a case, or doesn't it matter? In an essay, should I discuss both then conclude which one is likely to be applied? Thanks
