What is a HC Bills' running number?

Hey guys,

I am learning how to reference, on bills to be exact.

It says here
"House of Common Bills have a running number in square brackets at the end, after the dates of the relevant Parliamentary session."

Example: Identity Cards Bill [HC] (2005-06) [49]

Can someone explain to me what a running number is? The running number in this case would be 49.

Thanks!

The running number is normally referred to as the Bill number, in this case means that the act was the 49th Bill passed during the 2005-2006 session of parliament.
