I know that the square of the wave function is the probability density of finding an a particle at a point but what is the wave function itself. Does it have any physical relevance? I am trying to understand molecular orbital theory and this concept is getting in the way. I have seen it used interchangeably with the orbital but I don't understand why. Any help please?
