What sort of creative writing exercises do you do? I've been using some websites recently for prompts so am curious.
I've mainly been writing random stuff - not so much a story, but just little paragraphs to try and work on my writing style.
I have a creative writing coursebook which has tons of exercises in it which are really helpful for getting warmed up. Basically you have to write about a character or object or situation for ten minutes straight without stopping, lifting the pen off the page or editing it. Really helps free up your writing and it is much more challenging than it sounds!

Regarding your creative writing, have you had to become a great deal more knowledgeable on historic periods of writing ie, Victorian, American literature etc.? If so, how 'handy', for lack of a better word, has this acquired knowledge been in you and your creative writing?
