It's possible, but very rare.
When it happens, it's often bleeding caused by something else being misinterpreted as a (usually light) period.

I know a few women who claimed that they still had them during early pregnancy, albeit much lighter/shorter than normal.

Yes it can happen, and you can also be pregnant without realising it if the baby grows into the spine as you will have little to no bump and still have periods. However, some women mistake implantation spotting at the start of pregnancy for a light period.

Technically yes. But it is not common.
The best way to find out is to do a pregnancy test.
