If you had unprotected sex yesterday, you need to take one morning after pill.
For the daily contraceptive pill, you are protected immediately if you start taking it the first day of your period, and after 7 days any other time in your cycle. You cannot take this pill and be protected retrospectively. -

A week after the sex, yes.
If you were taking it (including being on the usual week-long break with some pills) for at least a week before the sex, that will prevent ovulation for at least until after all the sperm have died.
