Which modelling company was it?

Well research the company name on the internet, if they want money; it's a scam. I've been through this before. Don't accept any contacts.

Be careful! I know someone who fell for it, went and had photos done then had to pay £800 on the spot...she did get some nice photos but it was ridiculous seen as they said it was all free! To be honest I think she was quite niave to fall for but...

If he suggests going to his private studio for some swimwear modelling shots, stay far away

That happened to my friends, and she got her Dad to give this company a call and check it out - and it was fine. A well known modelling agency in the NE.
She did have to pay £25 though, but that was for a professional portfolio which is amazing. Now she gets like £80 per photo shoot, and she has just been asked to be in an advert.

most likely a scam, i know a couple of people who got approached, then got rung up for some modelling work of some type, being told they had to pay X amount for a portfolio. Any reputable modelling companies wouldn't ask you to pay if they were really interested in having you.

I've heard about scams like these before, but never seen it happen to any of my friends. I cross my fingers and hope that this is the real thing! =)

I fell for this model scout and it was a scam. I was quite shook up about the whole thing as I've heard many stories about models getting ripped off by these bogus people. Right now all I can do is learn from my mistakes. However there are genuine agencies and photographers out there but be careful. I would recommend bringing a chaperone with you for the first photo shoot.

Here is a site that's worth taking a look at...http://www.modelsafety.co.uk

Post up a picture of yourself andi'll tell you if it was a scam or not . And another way is if you weigh more than 3 stone it's a scam

Whilst its not true that if they ask for money its has to be a scam, i would agree that if you get scouted on the street it looks suspicious to say the least.

Here is how the modeling agencies for 'amerture models' work, you sign up and pay to go in to the catalogue. The catalogue goes out to people who use models, they choose a model and contact them through the agency, the agenct takes commision from what you are payed.

The model agency does not need you since chances are if you odnt get the wor someone else in the catalogue will, so the agency get the money either way, this means the more models they have the more they need to advertise to make sure theres enough work so people get a lot of work. This is hwy they will charge you something like £80 a year.

My cousin used to do this i think she was making something like £1000 a year, so dont expect to get rich off of it, its not very conveiniant either when you have commitments such as school or university as many jobs will be during the week, so you will have to either miss school/uni or turn down most of the jobs you get.

Think of it like this: if you don't have to pay for portfolio pics - great. If you do, make sure you pay no more than you would want to pay for a few nice pics of yourself (£20-50).
