JMC imperial offers

i kno theres a similar thread like this but i always seem to lose track of it,
i'm just curious about those people out there who have a JMC offer from imperial, and what type of offer they got cos mines rather high and unfair

for those that don't know what JMC is, its joint maths and computer science

a-level subjects Maths, further, physics, economics
the're offer AAA excluding economics

is physics really that important that it has to be an A??

well, i cannot see why it is unfair? a typical offer of JMC/Computing is AAA and many people got AAAA or AAAAB (excluding General Studies)

The normal minimum entry requirements, common to all courses within the scheme, are three A levels at A grade, including Mathematics and a hard science subject (such as Physics, Chemistry or Biology)...

Hi guys

I applied for maths at impeiral, with an offer of AAB, and i recently changed to the JMC course and my offer kept the same!

But now im not sure what course it better, as there were many places left for the JMC course! which do u think is better maths or jmc at imperial?

also i have an offer at warwick for maths, and can change to maths with economics or maths woith computing.

out of all my possibilities what degree and uni is best option for me in terms of employability and job prospects?

Dude that's like their minimum offer so I would say it's very fair. As for Physics I don't see the importance in it too much to be honest. Might help a little bit with the "Hardware" course but not majorly. Point is that's what they want you to get for whatever reason so you don't really have a choice in the matter.

I don't think they are after brilliant physicists rather people who can achieve an A grade in sciences subjects. Because, to be honnest, I got AAA and I'm in the lower half of the year.

Seems to be, that theres once again another one with the same problem.
I have an offer for JMC at Imperial, but also an offer for MMath at Warwick.
Still not sure what do to. What I do know is that Im choosing between
these two options. I might change JMC to straight maths if I goto IC.

In the prospectus they do say it is generally AAA anyway, although my offer for Computing is AAB (A in maths and AB from economics and physics).

They must have really liked you to give an AAB offer, because this is rare.

And your A-level subjects are the same as mine when I started (if anyone cares).

I suspect it might be the fact that I'm predicted only a B in phys and an A in the other 2 subjects. I don't think unis usually give offers above predictions do they???

Hmm, good point. Although the fact that they invited you to interview and then gave you an offer despite having predicted grades lower than their standard offer would suggest your PS & interview left a very good impression.

AAAA or AAAAB who ?? haven't seen ne in this forum or in my school, or in fact ne1 i know

---------------

the unfairness i was argueeing against is not the fact that it is AAA, its the fact that economics a somewhat moderately desireable and fairly hard subject is regarded as micky mouse from imperial, (althou it is kinda)

i recon a fair offer for me would have been

AA maths/further A in any other subject

i got AAAA plus 2 city&guilds part-time programming courses.

perhaps they dont think further maths is a hard science subject so they want you to get A in Physics. in the other words, if you did maths+chemistry+physics+economics then they might have given you an offer of A in Maths and AA in any of the rest.

hi, ive made my firm choice of jmc at imperial college for this september. they are also asking for AAB (As in maths and further maths and B in phsics). i just wanted to know do you think i made the right decision. i mena i heard that the work is very hard at imeprial specially in maths and computing so i was wonder would i be alright with the worldload. i havent had any programming experience though so maybe ill be behind in computing part of the course?

is it? im actually getting really scared now. i dont want to find out im not good at the course later on. should i be worried. really was that last comment overexagerated? or was it the truth. will my lack of programme experience hinder my chances of getting a good grade?

guess so  ! although there are a few other people on this forum who have AAB offers for Computing/JMC too.

Must say I am kinda worried about the major workload too, but then I'm thinking since it's something i love, it should be pretty good fun even if it is alot!!
