Hi, when do you start sending offers to early applicants? In particular for Mech Eng?

    Thanks
    Hi Jneill,

It's difficult to say how long it will take, as it relies on so many factors and each individual application. Offers are being processed though at moment, so if you have applied already you should find out in due course!

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I hope this helps a little.
    Thanks,
    Jarrah

    Hi Zarasa,

The entry requirements for Psychology are ABB-AAB and the course is very competitive, but I will double check with the department on Monday when they are back in the office and get back to you ASAP.

Hope you have a nice weekend,

    Hi Zarasa_

I wasn't sure if you were talking about our Psychology course or our Social Psychology course, as we do offer both here are the University.

I spoke to the admissions office this morning and the answer was the same for both courses.

They have said that all applications will be assessed individually, taking into account your academic ability and potential, as well as your interest in the subject. They do this by looking at your contextual data – basically meaning that they take the whole picture into account – you can find more info here about this.

If you are made an offer, it would be within the offer range of AAB-ABB meaning you’d be expected to get ABB or higher. Ultimately, it’s your choice whether you decide to apply or not.

    Hope this helps!

Would doing EPQ in Psychology help to show the university my interest in the subject? Also, would it by any chance bring my offer down/up?
    Thank you so much

Received my offer to study Physics with you! Promptly accepted it, and very VERY excited!

I do have a few questions though (not about applications but rather SU and things going on!)

How much do the more expensive challenges cost at Rag (e.g. Inca Trail/China Trek)?
And how much in general does joining a sports club cost for the year (e.g. Golf)?

    Thank you!

    Hi Zarasa_

Any extras will always be a positive and show evidence of your motivation for the subject. The offer would still be for ABB or higher though.

    Hi dannicturner

Congrats on receiving you offer - glad you're excited!

The more expensive challenges through rag cost around the £2.5 to £3k mark. However, each challenge has several team leaders who are experts in fundraising and you're given loads and loads of help to raise the money to do the trips.

This year (and it may change next year) to join a sport you have a single joining fee to the Athletic Union which is £35 and then you can join as many clubs as you want to for a yearly fee. These vary a lot depending on the sport, but golf is £115 this year.

    Hope this makes sense!

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly

That gives me a good idea of what to save up over the next year - glad they give some help with fundraising!

    Hi jayeshsondhi

Applications are being processed all the time. It's difficult to say how long until you get a reply as every department deals with their applications, but a week isn't that long and as soon as they've made a decision you'll hear.

Sorry I can't be more specific than that, but you will hear in due course.

I am hoping to study history at loughborough, in my AS I got AAABC one of the A's being general studies and am predicted AAAA again one A on general studies. Offers range from AAB-ABB for Loughborough they include general studies. I was just wondering to what extent they accept it, for example if it was a A would it be put over a B or C in one of my actual subjects when I get my final grade.

    Hi snailing

Which course is it you are interested in as not all accept General Studies?

However, if the one you are looking at does and it doesn't specify that the A has to be in a particular subject, then it doesn't matter what the A grade is in.

Does that make sense & answer your question?

    Hi,

I am looking to do the Msc in Sport Management in the academic year 2015-16. I have narrowed down my options to two universities (Loughborough and Birkbeck). While I am aware Loughborough has a rich sporting culture, the course at Birkbeck offers a specialization in football (the industry that I am currently working in). Can anyone help me out with the pros and cons of studying these particular courses at both universities? Also, as an international student, how much easier would it be to settle in London as compared to Loughborough? Your answers will be highly appreciated....thanks

Hey, I sent my application on the 24th and got acknowledgement on the 28th in the morning and then received an offer on the same day later that evening. I think it all depends on the department anyway. I applied for Geography so I don't know if any of that helps you, but that's just my experience.

    Hi SanilDesai

Glad to hear you are considering Loughborough. Settling in Loughborough or London depends entirely on what you want.

Loughborough is a large campus university with great community feel and everything is one place, including all the sports facilities. While with London you get the whole of the city and everything that goes with that. It really depends on which you prefer. Also living in London will be significantly more expensive, so you would have to factor that in too.

We have large cities nearby such as Nottingham and Leicester and London is about 90 minutes away by train, and we provide a free coach service from London Heathrow to the University when you first arrive.

We have around 2600 students from outside the UK studying here and we have some great support and advice for international students.

If you'd like any more info, let me know.
    Vicky
