Just out of curiosity, I was searching for information about suicide and overdosing on specific drugs whilst logged into uni wifi. Is there any risk of them seeing it, and would they say anything if they did?

Just say you were researching. Purely educational.

As long as you're not doing anything illegal I wouldn't worry. That's not too weird of a thing to look up.

I think they do. This is why I haven't bothered with porn in Uni.

I've downloaded many torrents but never been stopped, though I have seen my bandwidth slow down but I dont think that was their doing. Might depend on the university, if it's relatively high on the league tables it might monitor activity as opposed to one lower down.

I've heard of quite a few people being expelled for torrenting on their university networks.

They know students at uni watch porn, you won't get into trouble for it.

This. I'm not sure if they'll actually look at your history but a lot of Unis forbid torrenting.

What makes you say that? All universities will have some form of acceptable use of IT policy, and they will all have a clause in there about illegal downloading/looking at illegal material. University league table ranking is irrelevant.

You know they need to pay people to check so it's quite unlikely that they would. But I wouldn't be surprised if they do screen out some keywords with occasionally people checking, but for the most part I think it'd just be a record for them to proect themselves.

In the unlikely event that anyone actually decided to look, well, porn's not illegal, and even if it's something extreme, this is hardly visible in the sort of metadata logged by the IP, and even if it were I'm sure the male system administrators would more than turn a blind eye. Dat patriarchy.

Out of the 190,000 male students per year entering the university system, how many of them do you think abstain from porn, and how many of them do you think are disciplined for watching it?

I really wouldn't know but some sites may be blocked anyway. Can you use your google search on your mobile
