Wit is educated insolence.
You a he or a she?

Anyway.. I can't help you. Wit is a natural thing, as far as I know.

you either got it or you dont!
Not everything anyone says is razor sharp and funny-sometimes if its done all the time by one person it can get annoying. Most of the time its just twisting things (in a good way) and word play. Sometimes people get a wrong (usually cos they've had a sense of humour bypass) and then you have to explain what you really meant! Thats pretty annoying.

I'm more witty than Oscar Wilde. However it is well known that Wilde passed off others wit as his own, famously someone replied to Wilde's assertion that "I wish I'd said that" with "You will Oscar, you will"

Basically the art of wit is using other witty remarks as your own. Buy a book or something

either you have the ability to think quickly on your feet to be funny, or you dont.

That would've been wittier without the bold, if you have to explain wit it ruins it.

Drink loads....then at least youll think youre witty
But the some people just don't get wit. Anyway changed it!
To the people who are witty, what do you think about before you drop a witticism? I mean, are you thinking hard about what might be funny to say and running through all sorts of fantastical scenarios in your head, or does it really just come naturally?

Like if someone's telling me a story about how bad there money situation is I can quite easily find myself interested in the story, but I also really want to be able to make them laugh, because listening and asking a couple of mundane questions doesn't seem enough, but I just don't know what to say that would be funny.

As mentioned above, it's all about timing. If you spend ages analysing the thing you've come up with, the time will be gone and it won't be as, if at all, funny as it might've been. You have to be confident and believe in your joke otherwise it won't be as funny. It also depends on you knowing your 'audience'. Some low-brow jokes may not work with some of your friends, but others will find it hysterical. To be honest, it's quite difficult to teach how to be witty, as it's like teaching someone to become charismatic. It's not impossible, but a lot of it comes from 'within' and shouldn't looked force or as if your making any effort to be funny.
