Really bad menstrual cycle

Hi, hope anyone can tell me if this is common or if something might be wrong with me? I've had my periods since January 2001, I am 18 now, but in July I had a period starting on the 7th July, and then another cycle on the 23rd July, then another cycle on the 7th of August and then another on the 23rd of August, so on average these past two months, 16 day cycles if I counted correct. I havent had one since but i am scared to go to the doctor and discuss it with him/her (don't want a male doctor to have to speak to either) and find out there is somethign wrong? What would yyou do? (I havent had sex so no chance of being pregnant by the way). Thanks in advance for any advice

If you've been regular in the past then this is obviously a bit strange, but if you've never really settled down then it might just be a weird phase. I have those. But stuff like that can be caused by changes in diet, exercise, stress... allsorts really, and you might just go back to normal now. You shouldn't feel scared to see your doctor, I'm sure they have to discuss worse things! And you can always request to see a female doctor or a nurse if you would feel better about that.
