Dihydrocodeine

Has anyone had any experience with these tablets? i have just been prescribed them for 3x30mg per day after breaking something in my knee. I have seen LOTS of bad reviews of them here -

So am quite anxious about taking them. Have any of you used them/ found them helpful? (and they're a class B drug)

my friend had them when she had a problem (sorted now though  ) and they worked fine for her. i think it should be fine as long as you stay within the recommended number of tablets per day

well, anything with Codeine in it has be treated with respect, and a 30mg dose is a fairly big dose.

But, so longa s you dont overdose on them, stick withing th limits and go back to your doctor if you have any problems with them.

The Doc generally knows what they are doing, so i'd just trust them.

From a personal POV, i've just been taking a Codeine Phospate 30mg, and all i would say is, try to time it so you dont have to do anything afterwards for a little bit, because mine occasionally knocked me for 6 or just made me fall asleep, but i don't know the exact differance between Dihydrocodeine and Codeine Posphate, so sorry about that.

just my POV, but if in doubt, always go see the doctor if in doubt.

hope you get better soon mate,

J

Basically just stick to the dose and make sure you stop taking them as soon as your knee is better and you should be alright. It'd be a good idea to reduce the dose gradually over time as the pain becomes less too.

lots of people take codeine without reaslising... (Co-Codamol is codeine, Co-Dydramol is Dihydrocodeine, and you can Co-Codamol buy them over the counter!!!!)... all ive heard, not having taken it myself, this is for a friend, that it made him feel like he was having a 'trip', turned him bit crazy if you follow what im saying.

I had a bad reaction to co-codamol 8/500 and they're the weaker strength!!!! and im more thn old enough to be taking them. you just need to mke sure its rite for you. if it makes you feel like crap and makes you feel a little spaced out i'd ask to switch to sommat else as in most cases there is a viable alternative.

Speak to your doctor if you're worried...

if you want my advice take 400mg of Ibuprofen and 500mg of paracetemol together 3 times a day and it'll do jsut as good a job!

Another thing to remember is that someone is more likely to post on such a website if they have a problem, it could mean that lots more people have had perfectly fine experiences...and therefore have no reason to search for a place to put their complaints.

Dihydrocodeine is more powerful than codeine. http://www.erowid.org/pharms/codeine/codeine.shtml

I wouldnt worry as long as you stay within the stated dosage.

I were taking them for a while for a broken leg. I didn't feel particulary sleepy and I definitely didn't have any trips when taking it. All it do was take the pain away, which was nice. In hospital I was being given IV morphine for a while so after that codeine was not much of an excitment lol.

How people react to pain killers very from person to person. If you are opioid naive (never had taken this sort of pain killers before) you are likely to experience stronger effect including drowsiness etc. Just take it easy first time and see how you feel. Avoid driving at the day.

If you are so unhappy with it you may ask pharmasis for over the counter pain killers and see if they are sufficient to get rid of pain (within recomended doses) or ask your doctor if they can prescribe you something else. But I would try first as most likely you are going to be absolutely fine taking dihydrocodeine.
