Best mates gone

My best mate has gone away on an exchange program from my uni to the Uni of Hong Kong and seeing that the new term is approaching I feel quite sad. He is thinking of transfering there permenantly;I encouraged him to do so as I have been told that it is a top uni in asia. I am just a bit sad that if he does transfer permanently then our friendship will just become distanced. I know our friendship wont be the same if this happens, and it will just turn into one of those lame cyber-friendships.

I have loads of other mates at university, but in terms of friendship I got along with this friend the most. I am not homosexual, before anyone asks.

Anyone been in a similar situation? What would they do/or did?

Thanks.

its really anooying when a best friend moves away. If it's any consolation I find it feels like they've never been away when I se them again.

That's the problem though, I am sad because it feels like if he doesn't come back to my uni for the third year, I will never see him again. Which is annoying me, as I will miss his companionship on night outs etc. :frown:

I know, it's really hard to be separated from people you really care about. First off though, congratulations for being so selfless and encouraging him to transfer! That's a really amazing attitude.

Yes, you're going to miss him... and it's difficult to give advice for that, apart from the fact that in time it'll be easier to deal with.

You say you'll never see him again - how do you know that? :P I know you probably don't have the money now, but keep the friendship going strong via webcam/messenger/email/the odd phone call/letters etc, and one day I'm sure you'll see him again, if you want to!

Good luck.
