no. the ensuite shared rooms are in H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, (two in each) and one on B straight - there are 21 ensuited shared in the whole of college
Hey they aren't bad rooms on the curves. i shared on b-curve in my first year and wouldn't change it! They are NO WAY the wporst rooms in college. Have you SEEN the extensions?
...which is better than the best accomodation in most other colleges and most universities- how terrible for you! :P most people get on really well with their roommates and i know a lot are living with the same person next year, living out. If you don't get on with them though, there will be spare singles around (no guarantees they are single on the curves though) or you might be able to swap with someone so you live with someone you get on with more.
plus there are about 80 people sharing on the curves - its not as though you're the only one in that boat!! likewise there are about 60people living on the extensions ("the ghetto") - you'll bond over it and laugh at it! being a student isn't about ensuite single rooms and the finest cuisine ya know!!
I think what may have caused that is that, and I don't know about others, but something/one told me that if you shared, you got en-suite. So when you get the letter it's like 'hmm, I'm shared. Well at least I'm en-suite.' Then you find that you aren't and it takes it down a notch. But I've gotten over the sharing thing now and am eagerly packing for Uni - you should too Max!

I turned down Oxford for Durham, and that's what we were promised there! Ok, not the en-suite bit, but the food is nice. Still, I decided it would be too driven and stuck up for me - I used to go to a Grammar school and it sucked.

what the hell are we meant to write in our letters to our children?! i planned to copy my mums' but its all about psychology dammit!!

have you not visited college before?! i can't believe that nobody would have showed you showed standard rooms on the curves if you have
i'd stayed in a double room on the open day and saw the singles then as well, i had no idea there was an extension and older rooms until i got there and the fresher rep walked me in and i was like "oooohh". massive disappointment. and it does suck that i was completely the opposite side of college to the friends i made in freshers week. so far, that after the second week they couldn't be bothered to walk over to the extension and so i had to always go over there - it does make you more sociable though and some of the guys on the ghetto were awesome, we turned up to some of the freshers week events with "B ghetto" written all over the togas and put up with it.
The ensuite rooms are actually much smaller than the doubles on the curves, so i really don't think you're that bad off - my friends was barely one and a half times my single room, it had less storage for over the holidays and no mini fridge.
I agree that it does suck a bit that not everyone has the same time of accomodation as each other when everyone pays the same amount - the JCR (junior common room which all the undergraduates belong to) put a motion across at a meeting saying there should be differential lets, i.e. people who get single rooms = most money followed by singles on the extension, ensuite shared and shared rooms (or whatever order it was). But it was voted against - it would have actually disadvantaged many of those people who were annoyed at the type of room they got since many 3rd years live in and those who had taken more part more in college get the best rooms (e.g. by being part of the social committee, the bar committee, welfare etc) - if you had a worse room in first year chances are you'd be more likely to want a better room in 3rd year and would then have to pay the most as single ensuite would have the highest rent. people still would have complained (should you pay more being in a single old room or a double new room?!) and aidans would lose its character and become just like any other university accomodation segregated by money and with many of the public school people living in one part and those who have left to spend living in a seperate part.
that wasn't meant to be so long, oops. what i was attempting to say is that your happiness at uni and the number of friends you make will not be determined by your room number - you'll have a great time wherever you are (unless you refuse to come out of your room and mix with other people!). be open minded, you'd be surprised!
The food is actually better than i had expected - if you like potatoes you'll be fine!! i only found it inedible about 4 times in the entire year (and i'm quite fussy about food)
and i know what you mean about the stuck about grammar school thing!
I've not heard anything about my parents yet. As you're nearest I'm blaming you. That's right, you!
i know, i just wanted to get her attention, obviously did not work as despite writing a massive post she has not told me what i need to write!
i only heard this afternoon who my daughter is and her address so its likely your (most probably dad!) parent has only just heard too. i know some of the engineers are great, but they'd have to be superman to get a letter written and posted that quickly! patience is a virtue and all that jazz!

Potatoes! My girlfriend's dad would be laughing if he read that- he's into fancy food and is always going on about how I'd choose potatoes over anything!
The fact that our food may not be as fancy as Oxford bothers me not in the slightest. I chose Durham over Oxford because I thought it would have cooler people, be more fun and still give me a good degree - so far, even just online, it seems my choice was correct. As I said, the room thing has stopped bothering me - whilst I do wish JCR Becy would reply to my email so that I can hopefully get the email of the guy I'm sharing with, I'm happy to be sharing now, and being able to say 'I live on the curve' makes me sound both funky and groovy.
she has a million parents ringing her up with worried children, poor girl, i don't envy her!! she'll reply when she gets a chance
you will be in heaven then. mash potato, roast potato, hash browns, curly fries, normal chips, jacket potatoes, herbed cube potatoes (amazing!), potato fritery things, new potatoes, basically every type of potatoes you can think of!! sunday dinners, the night you arrive, is the WORST dinner you get, it only gets better!! (before you panic!) the dinner ladies are awesome though

At the start of each ghetto corridor (nearest the college plodge and JCR) theres a double room which basically are the best rooms in college!!
It has a door on the end of the corridor, which opens into a large room with one bed. In front of that is an ensuite, and to the right is a separate room for your room mate; in the largest of the two parts, theres also a balcony (for b ghetto) or a door to the grass in the middle of the curves and straights (A ghetto) #
Im pretty sure B24 is that room; if it is then my god your lucky! you basically get to share, but retain privacy, you're on a corridor but have a nice big room, and you can access everything in college VERY easily.
