Just wondering why Japan was a testing ground for nuclear weapons and Germany wasn't. Maybe Germany wasn't even considered a threat at this point and the Dresden bombing was seen as enough retaliation.

Quite an embarrassing question to ask, really.

Are you talking about Hiroshima? retaliation seems to be possible. Japan has bombed Pearl Harbour and the Americans regarded that as a reason for revenge. Another reason could be the geography. While Germany is the centre of Europe, Japan is an island state. Thus it would do more damage for another countries to attack Germany than to attack Japan.

Which bit of "the War in Europe had been won before the A-bomb was built" did you not get?

You are right. After online search, I found out that Nagasaki and Hiroshima got bombed in August 1945, the (official) end of World War II was on 8th May 1945. I didn't know the exact date and I have no comments read before, but the one of the thread starter. Sorry!
