Strange Arousement

I am quite the literature freak and have been studying lots of poetry recently. One of the poems I came across was Leda and the Swan by Yeats..
His work is absolutely amazing and has extreme significance and some breath taking imagery. One thing that distresses me is that whenever I read the poem and think about it, it arouses me to the point of no return.. The poem is just so descriptive..

LEDA AND THE SWAN

A sudden blow: the great wings beating still
Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed
By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,
He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.

How can those terrified vague fingers push
The feathered glory from her loosening thighs?
And how can body, laid in that white rush,
But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?

A shudder in the loins engenders there
The broken wall, the burning roof and tower
And Agamemnon dead.
Being so caught up,

So mastered by the brute blood of the air
Did she put on his knowledge with his power
Before the indifferent beak could let her drop?

Is it weird that i get aroused by the thought of being raped by a swan?

no it's perfectly normal.

What the hell do you think?

He uses some very sensual language, so within the context of the poem I suppose I can understand how it conjures sexual images. Then again, if you actually lie back and think about being buggered by a swan then that's somewhat strange. Still, it's a wonderful poem!

But swans are such powerful, dominant, aggressive(can be) yet gracious, beautiful and peaceful animals.. its characteristics are so contradicting yet they coexist in one creature making it extremely interesting, and mysteriously appealing

Well. I see you are at uni in london. I did some searching around for you:

It is a website for RSPB "birding" tours run from central london. Have yourself a good time

Our field trips can take you to good birding sites

Birdsong, by Sebastian Faulks right? I had to read that for GCSE English...it has got to be the raunchiest, most disgustingly filthy book like ever! It was awesome, throughly recommended if your 16 and want a good read but your mum don't like you buying playboy or whatever! lol!

Bit freaky looking back on it now tho, the real thing is alot better.

Oh yes. My wildest sexual dreams involve a swan pinching my nipple and biting it slowly with its beak.

I totally understand how you can get aroused...just watching a swan swimming on the lake gives me an erection..imagine its feathers caressing my naked body...ooooooooooooooooooooh.

You can't be serious?

You are aroused by the imagery of a swan raping a woman?

Reply 12

Totally. Feathers are so sexually arousing...let alone white feathers...mmmmmmm

Slightly off topic, but if anyone fancies seeing the poem/myth portrayed in statue form I can recommend a trip to Southend-on-Sea. Pop to the Civic Centre, find "Births, Deaths and Marriages" and right next door in the courtyard is a statue of Leda and the Swan.

Funnily enough no one has ever commented on it as we walk past it to youth council meetings... education system ‘’failing’’ again!
