Does it ever work?

Ok, there are loads of threads about this because of course of the time of year, i posted a similar one myself a year ago. Everyone seems to be posting about leaving their boyfriend behind because they are going to uni? All i wanted to ask is can a relationship ever survive this kinda transition as you've proabably guessed from my question my relationship didn't and it was difficult time for me, I was the one who actually did the breaking up, and it did hurt, but i knew by that time (around christmas) that it just wasn't gonna work. People change so much so quickly while at uni, so can any one really go through those changes and still go home back to their relationship. I met up with my ex boyfriend a couple of times since and he has told me several times that i'm a completely different person and he feels he hardly knows me. I know i'm a different person, i can see i have changed, the changes in me are vast and quite dramatic really, others may not change quite os dramatically, but everyone does change. Does a relationship outside and through uni ever work?

My best mate and her boyfriend are still very much together after a year of uni - but then, even before university, they were long distance because he moved away. Also, they're both very much the "steady" types. So it can happen

But then, I've also seen what looked like a really strong relationship break up.

It worked for me and my girlfriend.

A friend's older sister went to Dundee, while her bf went to Cambridge, and they stayed together for about three years. Eventually they broke up, but by mutual consent or whatever and they're still good friends.
