Depending on the modules and exam board, I say BTEC is much better.

From my understanding:

ICT - Theory based, written exam's more so than practical exams
Applied ICT - Mostly coursework based (66% coursework) with huge amounts of elements from business studies which includes one practical exam and one written exam
BTEC - All coursework, no exam units, however not as highly regarded as the prior

If you're looking to do something at university regarding computing, go for standard ICT.
If you're not doing anything with computing at uni, but have an interest in computers and would like to develop some transferable skills, do applied ICT (What I have chosen)
If you're looking for a slightly easier time and are not a fan of exam's, choose the BTEC (However, you will need a Distinction or Distinction* for universities to appreciate it).

Hope this has helped.

BTEC now has exams for most boards so no point in that any more.
