Arctic Monkeys, rant!

Stop saying they are rubbish/overrated whatever.

These are young people who have made a great album. They have shown that they want to keep making good music by releasing an extra EP earlier this year and a new album next year. Most people who have a gripe with Arctic Monkeys on TSR have a self gripe that they are good but not that good. Thats why they are bloody popular.

Yes it is annoying for people to say that they are the biggest thing for 20 years or so, but they do have the potential to be as they have the right attitude about making music. Give them a break.

Crap album in your opinion, but that doesnt make it a crap album in everyones opinion.

Did you listen to the EP that they released?! Its so unradio friendly its obvious it wasnt about money. Im happy that they are releasing new stuff, if you or anyone else dont like it, dont buy it. But the more new stuff the better.

Most times i see Arctic Monkeys its, "i like them but they are overrated". They are not crap.

Perhaps you should entertain the possibility that some people just don't like that sort of music. I respect what they've done and I know that they didn't ask for all the hype. That doesn't change my opinion that they are "rubbish" and "overrated".

Actually i want some Monkey bashing. Because there never is any, people say, i dont like them so they are overrated. Thats not long enough, i want to hear why people think they are rubbish.

I personally think they are the perfect sort of band, they are constantly doing more stuff, they arent getting too arsey and over promoting themselves. They dont care about people downloading their music etc. And at the end of the day, they sell lots of records and sell out live shows.

Like them or not, they'll be around for a good few years. And its too early to sound them as the "saviour of music". But at the same time, its too early to say they definately wont be.

People almost always give their reasons for disliking them, actually. You usually hear a lot about a lack of creativity. And even the people who promoted them a lot at the very beginning admitted that the album was pretty similar-sounding throughout when it came out.

When people think they're overrated, thats just it: overrated, not necessarily crap.
However, they are crap. The lyrics are rubbish, sometimes it doesn't sound like they can play their instruments properly, the melodies are boring, and they have no charisma.

I think their ok. But yes totally overrated to a stupid degree. I've seen them live three times the last time being at Leeds Festival 06 and they have no stage presence whatsoever. Plus Alex Turner is an arrogant little so and so.

That point is spot on.

As for the music....

Well, i dont know about everybody else, but i got the beneath the boardwalk ep in the middle of 2005, when they were relatively unknown. Even back then, you could tell that the music was catchy and had the potential to make the band big. People shoudln't say the band are crap because loads of people now like them (as a result of NME/radio1, thats a different issue altogether!)

Maybe the lyrics are a bit mundane, and the singing aint too great. But to be honest, in the purest sense, i really like all their stuff.

They don't offend me exactly, but at the same time, I agree about them being hyped as ****. They are just a group of young lads, playing songs. And that's it. They have no real personality as a band, no interesting story to tell and they'll never be as successful as the critics suggest. Ever.

They are overrated. But they're certainly not "awful". And anyway, I'd rather it was them doing well for themselves in the charts than some of the absolute garbage that's been successful in the past.

But when it comes down to it, I really don't care.
