Virgin.

I'm sorry thats well out of order. I felt the same when I had em, just avoid engaging with other bracees.

Reply 3

I don't tend to notice it because i have grown up surrounded by people wearing them. I don't think it necessarily makes the smile worse either.

Reply 4

i think they are sexy

Reply 5

i notice them but my mind just says "oh right, this person wears braces" and that's as far as it goes. i acknowledge it just like i'd acknowledge somebody had blue/brown/whatever coloured eyes or big/small lips or a head on their neck.

don't be conscious of it, pls.

Thinking about it, its true i also think the same....

I notice quite a bit because when people smile you're naturally drawn to their mouth...but braces arn't a bad thing! We've all ad em :p: Just because people notice them doesn't mean they're repulsed. You're probably worrying too much about them. If they're a recent addition to your lifestyle I can assure you at first everyone is slightly self conscious about them because you're so aware of them. Once you settle into them they become natural and you don't notice them as much. When you stop noticing you'll stop thinking other people are noticing  If that erm makes sense lol. Good luck with everything  xxx

I've had them for over a year and I'm still SO self conscious!! :frown:

Surely you're nearing the end of your brace time?!
Are you self conscious because someone has actually said something bad about your braces? Or just paranoid about what people think...x

Reply 10

Yeah, you notice it... but I for one don't think anything bad. More like, "oh, she has a brace... what's next?"

Reply 11

I'm just paranoid.
They're coming off at Christmas but the thing is I'm starting uni this week and it's really bothering me. I hate smiling (especially in front of a guy I like) because I always assume he's thinking, "Ew, metal mouth! I'm so not kissing her!"

If someone smiles, i
1)smile back,
2)decide if the situation enables me to engage in conversation
3)act on my decision
4)continue with my life and not be shallow enough to let it bother me

basically i notice them no more than if they actually had teeth or not...

Well of course I notice them. But it only registers in my mind, just as I would if I saw a car go by, or whatever. We all notice if you are wearing braces or not, we all have eyes, and yes we do register it.
But we don't think "BRACES! SHE HAS BRACES NOOOOOOOOOO!" Infact, no one mulls over it or gives it another second's thought.
On a serious note, it's not offputting. I always envy people with braces, and think "Lucky buggers, in a few years they will have amazing teeth"

Reply 14

Act like you don't care about it, seriously . I'm trying to do this with guys. I don't tell them that I've got one or forewarn them or whatever - I just talk and smile as much as I can to make out like I don't care. It can be quite a nice attribute to have if you don't care about them, actually , or make a big deal.

My friends didn't even notice I had them in when I got them, even though I was smiling a lot.

Reply 15

At least you won't end up like I will. No doubt my smiles, already ugly, will get worse and worse as I grow older and my teeth grow all crooked and evil like.

Reply 16

If someone with braces smiled at me, id scream

ARAAARAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGHGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and run away as fast as I can, screaming of course.

My sister gives me all sorts of problems

Reply 17

U really shouldnt feel that self conscious about having braces. Alot of other people do and they get on just fine and look great!

Reply 18

Braces are some what natural, in a sense most people have had them, either the braces or retainers, so they know what its like.

I really dont have a problem with them, they're un noticable, and if a guy doesnt want to talk to you just because you have braces, do you really want to be talking with him in the first place?
