Startling amounts of ignorance on the issue being displayed here (as usual, I might add).
(Original post by MatureStudent36)
Because Iran signed the nuclear non proliferation treaty and said it wouldn't......and then chose to develop them.
Hah! Please provide one credible source (preferably from the IAEA) for your fallacious claim that Iran 'chose to develop [nuclear weapons]' - does this mean they now have nuclear weapons?

If you are indeed privy to such information I think you should inform the IAEA asap, Iran developing nuclear weapons will be news to them (even all US intelligence agencies don't believe Iran is actively seeking nuclear weapons).

When it comes to apocalyptic weapons, what is 'fair' doesn't matter. It's pretty mad to say 'it's unfair for us to have them if they can't have them - let them have some'.

It is in Iran's interests to have nuclear weapons. But Iran having nuclear weapons is against the interests of the US, the West, most of the Middle East and Israel. So if these countries can stop Iran having nuclear bombs, of course they will.

We can all name the reasons why Iran's government, objectively, shouldn't have the weapons (aggressive government whose foreign policies suggest they would threaten nuclear attacks to further even small agendas, the risk of them fulfilling their desire to wipe Israel off the map, the idea of an extremist fundamentalist religious organisation holding nuclear weapons, the fact that Iran funds and arms Hezbollah, a terrorist organisation, the fact that it would hugely destabilise the Middle East, the fact that a war would break out if they got close to a bomb as Israel would attack) - but all that really matters is that we don't want them to have them so we won't let them have them. The only thing that matters in international politics is who has power and who doesn't - talk of fairness and decency are always just smokescreens to hide countries' real agendas.
I largely agree with this, with the exception of Iran being ruled by an 'aggressive government whose foreign policies suggest they would threaten nuclear attacks to further even small agendas'. Iran's foreign policy has done nothing to suggest such lunacy. The regime want survival, so they won't act in a way that will bring forward their (inevitable) demise.

No where is it written that only an arguably future superpower can have them.

But the reality is that they do so Iran shouls have them aswell.
It's easy to go into countries with relatively small populations and poor technology to impose our will. It's a bit harder to do in a country with a billion people with enough money for a decent military (though India seems peaceful anyway).

Don't know how this is a valid reason against Iran getting nukes?

India is peaceful and an ally of the US.

Iran is theocracy sponsoring Hezbollah, Assad and Hamas who also allies with Russia.

Who don't easily submit to US.
Awhile back US asked an Indian Diplomat to leave US in response to which India told all US diplomats in India to pack up their bags and leave...

Iran is theocracy sponsoring Hezbollah, Assad and Hamas who also allies with Russia.
US was with Hafeez Al Assad, created Taliban, Saddam when he used chemical weapons on Iran, currently with SA, Qatar and Turkey who are key to Wahabi Ideology (currently installed with Daesh) and who fund Daesh.

US > Iran when it comes to terrorism and false play.

Short term, i'm sure relations will recover with the US. That's Pakistan's fault in all likelyhood.

They may well have been worse but importantly, our interests are currently aligned. It's simply not in our interests to see Iran get a nuke.

Iran does not want them; it has signed the NPT (nuclear proliferation treaty) meaning it will not develop nuclear weapons. If it does it it means Iran will have lied in front of the international community causing them to isolate it like North Korea and even attack it as a country in the middle east with nukes could easily be used as another pretense to go and wreck a pretty wrecked area. In regards to "Oh they will destroy Israel" and "We don't trust them". Israel is a pariah state shunned by members of the international community; furthermore it has been tried for international war crimes against Palestinians, it has been in war every single day since its existence in 1948 and even had relations with apartheid South Africa. And for the record Iran did not say it would destroy ISRAEL it said it would destroy the Zionist regime. There is a difference. When the Americans wanted to destroy Communism they did not want to destroy Russia but the regime it was under. Ironically its not like the Israelis have said they would not want to destroy Iran's regime... I guess you could call it a translation.

I challenge ANYBODY to respond to my points...

Iran has been trying to enrich plutonium. That's only used in nuclear weapons research.

Sources?.... your source says I quote Iran "could produce plutonium".. There is nothing to suggest it is as it's just another failed assumption, proven to be false..

There is no proof Iran has been enriching plutonium. Only uranium.. Anyways if Iran really wanted the bomb it could easily acquire some from Pakistan or maybe already have made some as the nuclear programme is over 50 years old! and nuclear weaponry is not "hard" to acquire since the technology has been available for more than 5 decades....

Hahaha a bit of both ... Anyways to your point of why did the Israelis assassinate the iranian nuclear scientists is to halt their nuclear programme.. Which was illegal as usual but of course because it is Israel it doesn't matter...

Why should it be that USA, Israel can have nuclear bombs but Iran is prohibited from doing so?

Waging war against an Iranian state that would make a nuclear strike against Israel, seems legit and sensible to me.

Why would Arab countries want to save Israel? (In my previous post I meant Arab nations vs. Iran)
