So, I'm planning on going to Italy for half a year! I am wanting to work part time, aswell as experience the culture and learn the language. The thing is, I have heard that getting a job in Italy is supposed to be quite hard at the moment. I have got a couple of tips, one of to write a cv in italian and try to get a job before going there. So my question to you guys is, whether anyone has done this before? any tips??? And I can't really decide upon whether I should go to Milan or Rome- both of which are beautiful cities! Will be happy for some opinions!
i suppose it depends on what kind of job you're looking for, whether you want to work in fashion etc... are you looking for paid work? and btw everyone on here seems to love rome!!
hm, well..I have had a serious think, and decided on going to Rome Seems like a great city to live in!I have no preferences for what work I want to do. I work at the moment, and have earned myself quite a lot of money. What would be the best, is to have a job where I can be social with italian people, just for the languages' sake. Like a bar or restaurant or something! What do you know/think?! Any of you know how much monthly rents of flats are in Rome??
cool! I will be going in jan07, and am planning on staying about 5 months. What about you?
i'm going beginning of feb 07, to a language school out there for 6 weeks! should be good - never been 2 rome or italy before tho but everyone seems 2 LOVE rome so ithink i made the right choice! hav ubeen b4? can u speak italian? i can't yet!xx

I have only been in Florence, which was absolutely beautiful!i loved it!I took italian lessons at high school for three years so I know quite a bit. Yet, my reason for going to Italy is in fact to learn Italian fluently. What language school will u be going to??I have looked into some, but there are so many to choose from..have no idea which is good and which is crap!Do you? I think its a good idea to go to one though, to learn the italian grammatics and then be able to use it in practise.
go to Milan its great all the people from there are so friendly just don't go too far south is my only advice. unless you dig a lack of running water...

yeh everyone says florence is really nice - really wanna go there now! oh rite yeh you must be good at italian then after 3 years! i've done of it so far, although i am doing it at uni next year, hopefully to be fluent in it eventually. sorry, i'm not sure which language school i'm going to yet - i booked it through a company and they haven't yet told me which school i'm going to! i'll let you know once i find out! but yeh i agree, i think it's a really good idea as well, the whole immersion technique and getting you to actually put into practise what you've learnt. so you're thinking of going to one too? how's the research going? xx

yes, I have been thinking and researching about how to spend my time in Rome. I found this volunteering work through the EU where all costs are covered plus you would learn italian, seems interesting, though I am still not shure of anything. It is a bit hard to deside..especially when the english written on italian web-sites is so bad!!I think they use like a translator on the net or something. Their texts just don't make any sence sometimes! This is the link to the volunteering programme I looked in to, just in case you would be bothered to read about it=) http://ec.europa.eu/youth/program/sos/hei/hei_form_en.cfm?HEID=42000316186
