A skills audit is exactly that, where the company will investigate what skills employees have and from this they can identify where certain individuals need to develop and also if they can transfer individuals to different departments where their skills might be more useful (i.e. prevent job mismatching).

Retention - You mean when they're considering to make people redundant? Those with low skills might be easier to get rid of.

This is all E&OE.

Good answer  The audit also helps to set targets and send employees to the most useful/suitable training programs. Another word for it is appraisal
