Why do you use social networking sites/ why are social networking sites popular?

So far i have: you can connect with people from over the world, talk to your friends, keep in touch with old friends who you would not speak to otherwise. Keep in touch with family members if they are in different countries. People just waste time on them when they are bored. Easy and simple to use. They are free so it appeals to a larger amount of people. People might just make an account because everyone else has one.

Thats what i have for that question. So why do you use social networking sites.
