because you had a horrible/cheeting/demanding/selfish boyfriend and your best mate couldnt stand you ignoring all of these factors so makes you choose between him and her...or you have a horrible/cheeting/demanding/selfish boyfriend who hates you spending time with your mates and makes you choose between him and her.

Surely it has to be your best mate....after all if you had found the right partner as it were you wouldn't have to make such a choice.....or am i being naive?!

If your boyfriend or best friend forces you to choose between them and someone they know you love a lot they clearly aren't thinking about you and what is best for you. Imo it's selfish to force someone into that kind of position and doing this will almost definitely push them away.

i agree!!!

but you have to put your bf first to some extent- or your relationship will never go anywhere cos you will never see each other....

my ex-bf is my best friend + i would never try and mke him like my bf, just because the only thing they have in common is going out with me and it would be very weird if they were friends.

i try and spend as much time as possible with them both. i would never stop talking to my best friend just cos my bf said so (although i'm pretty sure he's not entirely comfortable with our friendship, but he knows he can trust me) + i would never give up my bf just because my friend decided i wasn't spending enough time with him. you've got to try and compromise and if they don't get on just keep them seperate.

but keeping them separate means ultimately you will have to choose- i mean i know that my bf and one of my best friends don't really get on so if my friend asks me to do something i have to choose not to see my bf then.....

Oh yeah, you have to balance your time between all your relationships (bf/gf/mates/family/time to yourself...). Best friends and boyfriends also should be understanding that there are only so many hours in a day!!

but then surely you have to make that decision between all your groups of friends, i socialise seperately with my school friends and my college friends, i wouldn't say either suffered from it.

and my ex-bf + my bf can tolerate each other, but would never spend any time together unless i was there. they both realise how important the other one is and i would be furious if either of them made me choose one of the other.

its just all so complicated!!
its hard for me at the mo tho cos my bf is still at school- and so sees all his friends there and talks to them and everything...and i am at work so i don't see anyone all day...
then sometimes it makes me cross when he wants to go out with them instead of seeing me cos he has seen them all day....
but i do get jealous easily......
oh well.......
