UCAS points

How do you get points, i know you got points for like a grades and so many for b and so on, and i know you get them for as too. However i heard key skills counts towards points and i know there was a course someone mentioned tha earned them, which wasn't an a level or anything like that. So bassically what are the things you earn points on.

Also i saw on the gaurdian website that their highest teir is 400 points +, which seemed awkward.

is the site where it says about it.
Heres a downloadable copy of the ucas tariff. Universities make offers usually on points achieved from a set number of subjects i.e. 360 points from 3 subjects (which is AAA) key skills is also given some points, i think 20 or something, but only some unis accept this

hey thanks for the helpful info, so do they actually require 400 points? on the cambridge website i can only find that it requires 3 A's at a level which is not over 400 points. what is a good points score if i want to get a place at a good uni like cambs?

To be honest, most of the top unis use grades rather than points.

400 points is probably what the average applicant/student has. The requirement is usually AAA, although if you're taking 4 subjects, some colleges might include them all in the offer. Some colleges also include AEAs if you're taking them.
I believe the average Cambridge student has a score of 520, but that probably includes music grades and so on. I had a final score of 670, but Cambridge still only required 3 As.

What were those 670 points made up of?
AAAAaa, plus merit in grade 8 piano.

Are AS results taken into account when adding up points? :s-smilie:

If you carry a subject on to A2, your final A-level result in effect cancels out the AS result and you can only count the points from the full A-level. For example, if you got an A at AS but a B overall, you'd only get 100 points for the overall B, not 100 for the A2 B and another 60 for the AS A. If you drop a subject after AS, you'd count the points if you wanted to work out your total points score, but it wouldn't necessarily be included in an offer. Hope that vaguely made sense!

Right here: http://www.ucas.ac.uk/candq/tariff/#music.
I took grade 6 pinao in 2005, so I only have 25 points of UCAS point...now I am waiting for grade 8 one. If I pass, I can get 55 points for Australian Uni. study
