Binge drinking is massively unhealthy, but you're only young once.

Then again, it could completely destroy your liver.

The fact is, binge drinking is still too new a phenomenon for us to have any real idea of quite how harmful it can be in years to come.

He speaks the truth.

Once a week? Not that bad imo. I suspect most uni students do it way more then that.

Reply 4

i drink at least 2 pints a night, and have at least 2 heavier sessions a week.

beer is best.

Reply 5

depends how long you carry this on....and depends what you mean by pissed.
1. typyish saying stupid things and just being a general ****** OR
2. Not being able to stand up/throwing up/doing stupid shizzle that you'll actually really regret.

It probably will affect your health quite significantly, and like anything else, it will "increase" your risk of all things evil. However, it can be fun, but when it comes down to it, it's just better not to.

still as said in the above, you only live once ya know :P

But you don't wanna destroy your body at such an early age either.

how unhealthy is gettin pissed every weekend, will it cause any long term effects???

why have you got the image if the khalsa and talking about getting pissed.

now thats disrespectfull

Should note that it's much more unhealthy to drink nothing during the week and drink your full week's unit allowance over the weekend than to moderately drink throughout the whole week. Though that's not to say that having two pints a night is great for your liver, it's not as bad as having 7 a day at the weekend.

That's true, but there's nothing worse than people over the age of 30, drunk, especially when they're in some kind of social scene for the younger generation.

i really don't get why people get pissed regularly every weekend.
obviously its unhealthy, especially if its something continuous.
long term affects; liver failure?

It really is as simple as the fact that it's fun.

Reply 14

^ It is fun, so for that reason i dont think once a week is too bad. As someone said, youre only young once. You dont want to live a little while longer if you havent enjoyed over-drinking in that time!

Reply 15

not if you have one of those new everlasting, renewing livers I've heard about....in THAT case you'll be fiiiiiine.

Newsflash: binge drinking is bad for you. Regular binge drinking exacerbates those issues.

Reply 16

You put on lots of weight and can end up with a beer belly and you can get liver damage, not to mention hang-overs...But ah well, you only live once

Hey, i know this isnt a religious debate, but im sikh (by parentage) myself, but that is pretty ****ty. I presume the OP goes to the gurudwara

however, on a side note, my parents talk about these outward sikhs, who wear the khanda, shave it in their heads etc, listen to (imo crappy) bhangra, attend the gurdwara, and it makes me sick because they seem to think that because they do all this and maybe tie a turban that theyre good people, and are a credit to the culture and indian heritage.

this has turned me off the whole way of life and religion etc, coz imo its balls... as this seems to be what being a sikh and being indian these days is about (with exceptions obviously). This is not to spark a debate, but i have to agree with this guy here. its quite stupid to outwardly express religion albeit via avatars on a students forum - then go against what it says in the religious teachings and drink. (it says somewhere in the guru granth sahib about how you shouldnt drink alcohol, as it alters the mind, and how gods nectar or something was better... i dont know im not religious, but it does say something along those lines somewhere - learnt that during GCSE RE; the one thing that stuck:p: ). This is assuming the OP is religious... if not, i dont understand the khanda. and if he is, i dont understand the drink.

Perhaps the OP might want to re-evaluate the validity of his avatar.

On a more helpful note lol
Yeh i dont know how anyone can get pissed each and every week, when i get pissed i seriously dont feel like touching a drink for a good few weeks. it is fun though.

my dad mentioned something about a homeopathic medicine called Nux vomica or something? its apparently an antidote for alcohol in ur system.

but yeh, have fun, best to get the drinking out of ur system when ur young and can have fun with it, as opposed to being a middle aged alcoholic who eats cornflakes with whiskey instead of milk
As long as its controlled... that is my 2 pence worth

Well as a student, i am getting used to getting pissed basically at least 3 times a week.

They say that 5 years consecutive binge drinking will cause permanent liver damage, i am going to be at uni for maximum of 4 years so i should be fine, no damage whatsoever! lol!!

Seriously, if you are going to uni, have a good time because it all goes downhill when you leave.

Also, be like me and drink spirits as you don't put on weight, Jack Daniels is awesome.

It's never occured to you then that other people have to fund your 'fun'
