Ears

Right, this is the weirdest thing I have about myself (i think).

When I was born my ears used to stick out like a monkey, my parents got an operation done which sticked them back. However my ears got messed up due to this and now look different to one another.

My dad keeps telling me to get the "other" operation done which will fix them and make them both look the same, hes been going on about it for the past 2 years and I've ignore everything he has said.

Nobody has ever called my ears weird or even said anything about them, but I know there different since I can feel it when I wash them.

So, should I get that operation done? Or is it not worth it?

without seeing its hard to judge.
but if youre happy theres no point

Really depends how you feel about your ears, if it doesn't bother you then there's no need.

Providing the NHS pays for it, I dont see why not, but I also dont really see why you should if its not causing trouble

really your call

Don't do it just because your dad tells you to. If you're happy with your ears, and it sounds like you are, and if you're not getting any stick for them, then why go through all the hassle?!

be happy with who you are. there are things everyone would want to change. if its caused no problems for you then dont bother! just accept who you are and if anyone makes fun of u cos of it, break their nose so they got a flat face XD

show us a pic? then you'll get some answers.

But seriously, if it's that bad, go to the Docs? If it is affecting your quality of life (e.g. you are being bullied etc.) maybe you can get them pinned back on the NHS?

My brother has such big ears that it makes him cute :p: OP: its just a minor physical feature but if you are bothered by it then, by all means, have the operation.

P.S. Could you upload a picture. You could digitally 'replace' your face with Spiderman's to protect your identity

If you personally don't feel you need to have your ear changed then don't. You shouldn't have to do something just because your dad thinks you should. Surely the operation would be for cosmetic reasons and wouldn't be paid for by the NHS?

However if your ears do bother you and you feel very self conscious about them then it could be worth looking in to it.

The NHS will fund operations such as these in 'extreme' cases where the mental wellbeing of the patient is at risk. My GP offered me cosmetic surgery to 'edit' (by skin graft) some significant scarring based on that idea.

Please post pics

If the procedure is purely cosmetic, and available on the NHS; why not?

how do i upload a pic on here ? i askd the docs n they sed that it cant be paid by the nhs i gota pay 4 it i dont care tho about the money i jus wna feel happy wit em

If having an operation will make you feel better about yourself and your appearance then I'd go for it. If you feel badgered into getting it done, just because your Dad wants you to, then I wouldn't bother. How will you feel down the line?; can you see yourself regretting not having another operation in 10 years time? It's your face! - do what makes you feel comfortable. A friend of mine had a similar problem - she had her ears surgically pinned back and it changed her life for the better. She was bullied about it at school mind you.

im just gonna do it n get it done n over with

What ever makes you happy... if you want to then go for it.

Reply 17

Do it - if you want, not anyone else!

If your ears dont bother you then why get the operation done? If they've never caused you any pain or suffering then can they really be so bad that you'd need an operation? You shouldnt just do it to shut your dad up, if anything he is in the wrong here by constantly going on at you to change them. He should understand that if your happy he should too be happy.
You've got to do whats right for you and not other people. Explain that to your dad.
