Organic Chemistry - Synthesis

Hi!

I'm having trouble predicting the product of this reaction (see attached file), could somebody please assist me if I'm correct in guessing it would be an E2 reaction only (with trans as the major product - see second attached image)?

If so, if this is the correct product, what would the further reaction be if I reacted this trans alkene with an acid chloride???

Thank you

Why would it not be SN2?

SN2 would occur, but it's the minor product according to my textbook. According to my text, a secondary substrate with a strong nucleophile and strong base gives rise to E2 dominantly as the major product.
