What self-contained activities are regulated by the state?

I'm exploring concepts for my dissertation. I'm trying to think of 'self-contained activities' (activities which have no effect on anyone but the individual) which are regulated by the state. An example would be certain drugs. Does anyone have any other ideas?

It's an FT blog so link might require you to register - but that's free. If you can't get it come back to me.

Edit -just checked that link after posting and it doesn't seem to link you to the article. Suggest you Google "David Allen Green + Law of Solitude".
