Should PE Be Changed?

I'm just watching some tv show about unfit teens on tv and it's made me think, does anyone think the way PE is taught in schools should be changed? Yeah i'm one of those unfit kids who thinks PE teachers were/are nazis but honestly I think PE should be changed for each pupil to achieve their individual planned goals. Anyone else agree/got any views?

I think there should be more PE than there is, quite frankly. I think there should be at least 3 hours of PE per week.

Why the hell is this in H&R?

Yes, but more needs to be done by parents. Stop feeding your kids crisps and chocolate everyday !!

Is PE not directly relevant to health?

Because I couldn't really think where to put it so I thought PE = Health - Just move it if it's in the wrong place

Agreed.

i think so!
it should be made different for each pupil so they can achieve there best rather than working together

I think there should be an hour of cardio, an hour of some sort of sport, and an hour of some sort of PE that each pupil selects for themselves.

The problem is that with some kids, no matter what you do they still wont be interested. Some people just dont like exercise and thats the way it always will be!

I hated PE at school. Not because of the exercise, but because of the teachers and my fellow pupils. I liked gymnastics as I was quite good at that. But in my year, there was always the gang of 'brilliant' athletes who were great at everything in PE, and they always used to get more attention than the less able people. In time, that turned into favouritism and it was obvious that they were getting more encouragement and more attention from the teachers. So after that I stopped doing it, I faked sick notes from my parents every lesson and even ended up leaving school early just so I didnt have to do it.

I think it would be really hard work to tailor PE lessons to every single childs needs, although by making it more interesting I think it would encourage more people to join in and actually enjoy it.

Yes i think kids should choose what they do e.g. trampolining, swimming, badminton, hockey, netball. I hated doing nated ball at school because i was shocking at it, i was much happier trampolining because it so much mre enjoyable. Also you should be able to wear what you want for pe because some people feel uncomfortable about wearing little shorts or skirts and would feel more comfortable in their own trousers and sweater. This would make kids hate pe less. Also, pe teachers are EVIL:girl:

That's pretty much what I experienced, the teachers were just only interested in the really good students ie the ones in the football team. Also, some of the PE teachers being obese didn't really say much for them.

PE is rubbish, I'm by no means fat but I hated it and bunked most of the lessons. It's a great lesson for jocks who like to show off but when you suck it's rubbish. The only thing I was good at was football.

Funny how that argument doesn't work for kids who don't want to do maths, huh?

i actually think that there should be more choice of sports at school, when i was in primary and a large part of secondary school all we did was play football and hockey, and while teams sports are good its never nice to be picked last, and i would often give up. however when the option of others were available, like badminton, i really enjoyed it.

i think most kids would actually want to play if they were given the chance to find a sport that they actually liked.

I didn't hate PE because of my dislike of hard excersise, I hated it because of how you're made to feel stupid if you arent any good at it. Like if you miss a ball everyone on your team moans at you.

I definately agree with letting people choose what they do in PE. It seemed like all we ever did for a year was netball!

I think there's an exercise for everyone that they'd enjoy, it's just trying to find it

Yes that's what i hated, when all those girls who are really sports obsessed would make you feel like an idiot if you didn't catch the ball, and it's not as if i could actually help being sh*t at catching.

I did 8 hours of organised sport a week. Loved PE

I just made excuses all the time to get out of PE at school and my teacher ended up at a match I played and well she didn't shout at me thereafter and I did take on AS level PE for a while loved the practical hated the theory. There's lots of different PE options however what suits the teacher is all that kinda counts. Most schools should take up opportunities to learn their pupils dance at local leisure centres etc to give the kids more of a variety
