But I like how the first 2 years are common to all Mech Eng courses, it seems to give a better foundation and maybe helps with employability? And they seemed to have a really proactive careers office. The Toyota internship scheme looks cool!
To be honest though I'd be thrilled if I got an offer from any of them!

Where are you hoping to go?

I'm not sure it helps with employability, their graduate prospects seem to be a bit lower than other similar uni's. Most other uni's I've seen treat Aerospace as a more general degree rather than specifically Mechanical, so at other uni's you have a lot more choice later on and given the higher pay for avionics engineers it probably pays off. So yeah it's always worth looking at full graduate prospect statistics (so start salary, % employment, % employed in engineering), as the results are all over the place for example surprisingly few Southampton, Bristol and Cambridge grads go into engineering (55, 50 and 64%) and Bath has a serious unemployment problem at >20%.

Sorry I didn't really form the thought properly. I meant more that if you end looking for a career outside of aerospace when you graduate, having 2 years of straight mechanical would maybe be a slight advantage over specialising in Aero from the beginning. I don't think it makes a big difference though really. It's mostly for flexibility, which I like the idea of.

I've been looking at graduate stats, but don't really put much importance on them. Obviously you wouldn't choose somewhere with a very high unemployment rate or something, but apart from that I don't find them that helpful. It's better to study a course that you're really interested in at somewhere you will be happy living, than to just pick somewhere based on those stats.

Hmm I suppose, although from a pessimistic side nearly every course will have the IMechE accreditation automatically so it may not make too much difference, plus 3rd and 4th year can easily make up for deficiencies in 1st and 2nd, not to mention some uni's offer accreditation in other fields like Materials which would arguably be just as useful.

I'd agree that it's best to study a course you're interested in but from experience and the opinions of other aerospace students, you really won't know what you will be interested in before you start. Like for my course I'd say the majority wanted to go down the mechanical route at the start and hated the avionics side, now that we've actually done a bit of avionics related content it's the complete opposite as people are starting to warm up to it.
Yeah, no one ever knows what they want to do in the end, I've definitely changed a lot :P

As I said before anyway, I'd be happy to get an offer at any of my choices! I'm doing a non-typical qualification so I've pretty much applied for everywhere that accepts it! Had to apply for the foundation at Southampton because they don't take it =/

Nothing I can do now really other than study hard and keep waiting :P

Anyone applied to Sheffield? I don't think I'm getting an Imperial offer, so I think that's going to be my firm...

Yeah, I've got my offer from Sheffield MEng with the year in north america. Really want to get Bristol too but haven't heard anything back yet, also distance could be an issue since it's ages away from where I live. Would happily go to Sheffield though.
Anyone heard from bristol yet? when are all the applications usually considered by ?

They replied in like 2 weeks. & yeah it says A*AA on the website but apparently if they want to you, they will give you low offer. When I went to the applicant day, most people people had A*AA offer so I guess I was lucky. & This was for MEng.

Ah, yeah. I done m1 and m2 at AS so Physics unit 2 was a breeze. And damn, 3 mechanics modules must be a nightmare, i'm doing m3 now and it is tough.
