Subsidiary Modules

Hi, i'm in the process of trying to figure out which sub modules i wanna take at Notts.

I've got to make up 40 and i was wondering. In the letter they sent me they said i could do a combination of two 20 credit modules or four 10 credit modules.

Can i instead do two 10 credit modules and one 20?
course .. but max split between semesters is 70:50 remember.

Thanks, but what does 70:50 mean?

And this is TRULY annoying. The Notts website is faulty right now, cos i can't view the timetables of the sub modules i wanna do, so i can't see whether they'll clash with my English course timetable. That's annoying...
as in 70 creds in one semester and 50 in the other, or 50 creds first semester 70 second, you understand now?

just make sure you dont set urself on doing 80:40 cos all the good modules are in one semester (each year is 120 creds).

I'm also having trouble choosing which ones to do!! It's complicated because I don't yet know when my seminars are (and there are many for the same module listed) so I can't tell whether they clash with my preferred subsids or not! Grrrrr!! lol

Yeah, it's confusing isn't it? The Notts website isn't great. Their link on their handout for module timetables doesn't work and the one that they give on their own website doesn't work either.

Ah, that's made it much more clearer now. Now i've gotta figure out how many credits are in my English core modules per semester!
If you have to make up 40 my guess is you need 20 per semester, so im guessing you have 40 creds of english per semeseter.

English has four compulsory 20 credit modules which run all year. xx

Ah cheers man, now makes a lot of sense. I might do 60:60 or 70:50.

Now i've gotta pick which one...hmmm....at least there's a lot of choice.
im gonna recommend against 70:50 if you can avoid it, but of course if thats where ur interest lies you kind of have to. could be worse, law is 0:120 in first and second year basically, if ur lucky 15:105 in second year LOL.

Do joint honours students do subsidary modules aswell? Also everyone seems to have a list or something but I havent been sent anything to do with which extra modules are on offer so how can I decide, do we get information when we get there, and when do we have to officially choose?

The list appears to be here: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/courses-office/module-registration/first-year-modules.htm but is there any point choosing yet? Obviously worth having a look and having ideas...

It doesn't matter when you choose. Jet - if you haven't got any info yet you probably weren't supposed to so don't worry. As a joint honours student it is less likely that you'll have to do subsids, but some might be offered to you anyway. Just wait and see, it will get sorted in fresher's week. xx
