Anything about electromagnetism.

Thermodynamics, so few starting rules and examples, so many derivation.

Final year particle physics is what killed me.

Electromagnetism, especially when you're lectured by possibly the most boring guy in the world

yeah, EM is so dull and dry at elementary levels - it's really hard to make it interesting. a few more rail guns in lectures would be awesome. but that's not the most annoying. the most annoying is hydrogen quantum mechanics - so many corrections and crazy wavefunctions to learn! i can't remember what the |nlm>=|310> function is! so many radial and angular functions - it's all whack. and then there's spin-orbit coupling, relativistic correction, the Lamb shift etc.. and it's not even all precise, it's all approximations. that's really annoying.

hi everyone, im doing a course at university in physics and was just wondering what do you people think is the most annoying and difficult topic in physics, for me its VECTORS!!!http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/images/smilies/mad.gif
 even though its in the basics

If you think Vectors is a difficult topic then you are really going to struggle during your course.
Vector calculus is an essential part of practically all physics which talks about things motion. Electromagnetism, dynamics, general relativity, fluid mechanics and parts of particle physics. If you don't like vectors you'll hate physics as the years go by.

Most annoying? No particular topic in physics I've found boring, but the different sign conventions in relativistic textbooks is damn annoying.

Sometimes it's not that the lecturer is boring, they're probably just not a good lecturer (excellent researcher but doesn't show the enthusiasm or doesn't tell you about it in a clear manner). Lots of topics are annoying when you first read into it (there's never enough time).

Solid state stuff. I've just never been able to get into it. Even with Britney's help.
Optics, not helped by the fact that the main text (Hecht) is indigestible

Agreed. Anything involving pertibation theory is evil and should be shot.

thats one of the best bits! I'm such a quantum geek

For me its mechanics... hate it. So much fiddle with which I can't be bothered. For some reason I've always had a mental block on it
