Applying for Student Finance with an existing degree.

After my A-levels I went straight into an apprenticeship program and am now approaching the end. I'm looking to go to university but the issue I'm having is that I had to do a HND "degree" (even though I was not so keen) because it was part of my contract of employment. Am I likely to be refused student finance to do a degree in mathematics because I was made to get a HND in mechanical engineering before hand. It is worth noting that I have no interest in doing a top up degree for my HND.
