Also does anyone know from what year you can start applying, while having a decent chance?

Well, in the 3rd year, there are double the number of places. Also, the 3rd year is the most important as they take pre-reg's only from those who have done a 3rd year summer placement.
If you do do a 1st or 2nd year placement, make sure you try real hard, so maybe they will take you on for a future 3rd year placement.

Btw, you can't apply yet, as the application is not open yet, You will just have to wait for the uni to tell you when you can start applying. It doesn't matter if you apply early or the day before the deadline, you have an equal chance of getting in (providing you haven't rushed your application.)

hi i have just finished my first year placement with boots and although i enjoyed it greatly i think it depends which store you go to and what your colleagues are like. I think you can start applying in octoberish time.. so not yet.

If youve got any questions feel free to ask and ill do my best to answer them.

er..i think i'm getting a little confused by the term 'placement' and 'pre-reg'..

i think i know wot pre-reg is, its when u have to have to complete one year of working in a pharmacy/hospital right?

so what is placement?? is it like a summer job you do to increase your chance of getting a pre-reg at the same place at your third year???

Thanks:smile:

yeah ....pre-reg is basically a year of working AFTER you finish your degree...after which you have examinations

placement is usually 6-8 weeks during the summer in which you can gain some experience. i did mine at boots this summer in which i had to do the healthcare course and also a business project. i was in the dispensary for quite a while but staff shortages meant had to work on sales tills for a long time as well

It's good to get some pharmacy work experience over the summer - you get to preview how difference companies operate and whether it'd suit you to work there in the future.
