The Student Room Group

I'm not a current member because I opted out of joining it cos it seemed like a waste of money. As far as I remember (this was 3 years ago when it was the IEE, but I believe the IET is similar), you paid them money to send you some newsletter thing once a quarter, advertise some events which (chances are) you'd never go to anyway and offer careers services like your university. Just didn't seem worth paying for at all.

Personally, I agree with you. I can't really see it being overly useful. Obviously though, I'll join and be disappointed rather than miss out. Surely joining the Institute that governs your discipline is plenty?

Yeah - just get your free ICE membership and that'll be plenty. Plus you can subscribe to New Civil Engineer for £20 a year if you're a student member, and it's a weekly publication. Bargain.

Ive joined student membership - just because it seemed like i should! One of the admission tutors at a uni i went to (Loughborough) said it was worth it, even if just for some of the stuff they give you. Dunno, might not be worth it, but its 30 quid for my entire course, so meh.

i dont pay anything for my student IET membership  dont know how....maybe because the guy who signed me up was the guy at the top of the IET student institute :P (at the young engineers comp or something) i think they offer a free year to all students though.
