I like that!

It's my Masters graduation this Friday. I don't get this strange thing of graduating several months after you've finished the course. Scuttling through the streets in the freezing wind and rain is not my idea of what a graduation should be like :frown: My first couple of graduations (yeah I know…back in the dark ages) were lovely summery champagne and picnic affairs and in my mind that's what should always happen!

and is it sad that I have no idea what the gown looks like or even what colour the hood is? better check :colondollar:

Congrats and enjoy! (Even if it's in the winter weather!)

Your gown colours are the same as my MA uni's university colours but their gowns were only red, which I thought was a bit unfair

You don't get a floppy hat. That sucks for you.

Haha. The hat is weird. Floppy and not floppy at the same time: it's octagonal but made of velvet. Worst of all worlds?

Fingers crossed for you :hugs:

Thanks! All is well so far: loads of snow and not much destruction, yay! Going to go up to the top of the hill we live on later and survey

Ours are worse. Bright blue and red :pinch: I'm not sure I want to bother with the graduation!

I like the bright colours better, our maroon seems really dull and a bit mehh to me.

Is it the Ox Dmus that gets damask?

Glad to hear that. My sister (who you may recall also lives in Boston!) was quite cheery about the weather prospects when I she WhatsApped us all yesterday. Sounds like my idea of a nightmare though, since I have a phobia of snow :colondollar:

This is the Oxford DMus gown, apparently: http://www.shepherdandwoodward.co.uk/academic-hire/Doctors/doctor-of-music-hire . My former college tutor had a bright pink (well, I think it was technically called 'cherry red' or something like that) gown from when he took his DMus, back in the day :yep: DMus at Oxford is only for composers though

Hmm, a quick look at the website indicates my gown and hood will be maroon and blue. I'd prefer pink but never mind

I have to say that when I first entered the RHUL chapel and was told that this is where I would be graduating from, I became much more determined to actually finish the PhD :o: Not that that thought has done me the world of good motivation-wise so far :teehee:

The chapel's not that exciting, especially when family and friends are shoved back in the picture gallery. It's more about stomping through with Crown Imperial blaring out and trumpeters which was quite cool thinking about it.

My institute's graduation is every December so depending on when I submit and pass the viva, I might not actually graduate this year. I want my floppy hat damnit!

Ah I hadn't cottoned onto the fact that family and friends wouldn't be able to see anything coz they'd be in the Picture Gallery :frown: That's a shame. It's quite a pretty chapel though. Nothing on Woosta's but still, I'm a sucker for a pretty chapel :o:

Crown Imperial sounds quite fun

My parents were in the chapel when I graduated...Though it is a shame that not everyone can fit in! 'Tis a lovely place to graduate from though, with the one downside being that it's the students who don't get to see much of it.

I hate the Oxford DPhil gown. No hood? And no floppy hat either? Ridiculous.

As of tomorrow, my DBS would have hit 70 days at my local police force. Am I allowed to be a tad bit annoyed? :hmpf:

Also, Thameslink has resulted in me bring really late to work :sigh:

Here's hoping I can squidge mine in. My dad loves graduation ceremonies and would be sad if he doesn't get a good view  He was SO embarrassing at my Goldsmiths one - made me go and speak to the person who led the ceremony and everything

You should be able to- I think everyone I know had at least two tickets for their guests to be in the chapel, and then any additional guests were placed in the picture gallery.

Haha, yes, it's not like there's a different colour for every college. There'd be like a rainbow in the Sheldonian.

Ah, that's a good system by the sounds of it :yep: Should be fine then. Can stick my sisters (if either are in the country and free) in the Picture Gallery

I must also say that Founders is the most amazing university building in the UK. Some may find it 'too much' but I like it.
Never been there, but I hope I will see it one day.

People are skiing down my street

Couldn't actually see anything at the top because it's still blizzarding

I'm sure with a little Photoshop magic we could make them pink...

Hundreds of them sounds like a huge amount of work though. Good luck with it!

Hopefully, I have about another two years. 6-7 years is about average for my program, and though I'd hoped to be quicker, it hasn't worked out that way, so (fingers crossed) I'll be on the faster side of average.

Thank you  That lot are done at least.

Good luck with it all - I'll keep fingers crossed for you too - sure you will be fine.

Books. I gave missives to my loyal few (aka brother that lives with me) to buy food. So I've literally just read for two weeks haha.
