Hope you cheer up soon, I hate it too and avoid it when I can!

Feel a lot more perky then I did 7 hours ago :h: how are we all today?

Also feel a bit more confident about going back to study now  whereas before I was petrified!

I thought about what you told me today about goals and starting. It did make me realise that it will be scary no matter what I do however in the past when I do get scared I tend to shy away from the challenge. So for that, thank you :hugs:

Also, when i do visit Cambridge I will definitely let you know!

Oh well you made my day saying that my spreadsheets and badges looked good. I now feel much happier about applying for the job I found :p: Before I felt a bit like a kid taking their first drawing of a stick man to an art exhibition :p:

Idk. I think the PhD won't be perfect but I also don't think there's anything to be terrified about

Pretty excited, going away Tuesday, though I can't seem to get out more than 300 words in one day on my dissertation so I will have hell to deal with when I get back

A break from it all may help so that you come back feeling refreshed. Hope it gets easier and have a lovely time away

I agree with Craggy here. Furthermore and I think the more you (slowbro, anyone...) can 'normalise' the PhD experience the better it will be for you. If you treat it as something mystical and exceptional (three years of scholarly immersion) then I think the inevitable point in the second year where you feel like you have no idea what you're doing is likely to hit a lot harder. If you treat it as something essentially mundane (a job where you acquire and produce knowledge through a series of routine steps) you're much more likely to finish on time and to feel satisfied with the experience. In my humble opinion!

Me too, so we are in it together! I meant to get at least a few hours work done today, I need to, but instead I read a novel, walked to Trader Joe's to get snacks and lunch food for this week, then got tacos, and now my friends are coming over in less than an hour so I know Im not going to get anything done with the emainder of the day. Ahhhhh well.

Are you in the US by any chance? I did at least wash and straighten my hair (no easy feat), write another cover letter and just now I've done another 200ish words on my dissertation because my brain was screaming at me to work at it.

That sounds like a plenty productive Sunday to me

And, yes: I live in Boston.

I have curly hair too, so I feel that pain. I have to set aside 8 hr chunks to wash, dry and straighten my hair (if I straighten it), eugh.

With you both on that one.

I've got something in between curly and wavy, which basically means I look like this most days:

Hair ties are my friend!

Hope everyone is doing okay.

So, I *may* be emailing to see if a university would accept unique experience in lieu of publication record in view of the fact I am not able to publish atm.

Yeah it kinda was in the end. And ouch, not quite 8 hours for me, this time it took 3 hours because my Mum decided to tell me late she would blow/dry straighten it for me, normally I'd only spend 2 on it.
