Really bad, regular nightmares

Dont know why Im posting really, just a bit concerned about this.

For a while now, probably 6 months+, Ive been getting really bad nightmares on a regular basis, prob 3-4 times a week, sometimes every night.

I havent got a clue why, Im not on any medication, dont drink or smoke.

Some of them are really frightening, like the other night I had one that someone broke into my house, came into my bedroom and stabbed me, I woke up feeling really scared, and its becoming a regular thing.

Any ideas what could be causing this, or how to make things better? If I went to my GP do you reckon they could help, or would they laugh?

Do you eat cheese before bed? Apparently that's known to cause nightmares (so I've heard).

Or too much candy.

it could be a sign that something major is going on in your life and maybe your hiding some kind of emotion?

I agree with the above. Is anything about to change or has anything changed?

Try to think if there is a pattern to your nightmares like: do they come after or before certain situations, certain food, are they similar such as "falling dreams" or "being chased dreams".

If the dreamtype is similar, then reading a book on dreams (not a crappy book!) might give you a clou as where to look for the cause. For example "falling dreams" often relate to experiences where you fear you are loosing touch, having the floor whipped from beneath your feet. "Chasing dreams" can occur with severe stress.
