I just say missing you, or I miss you to someone I care about when I can't get to them such as if i'm on holiday
I know what you mean, I've got a friend who's at a different college now and whenever I get the chance, I ring up and ask to meet for a drink.

I don't think you can sound stupid, your friend will appreciate it and surely miss you too. Just say "I miss you, wish you weren't leaving" etc or anything like that!

"I miss you"

I reckon thats your best bet

Anything that centres around the 'i will miss you' theme without straying into the 'i'll slit my wrists if you leave' area will probably go down well.
Just be completely honest... say the words "i really miss you right now". You can't believe how good it feels to be able to say it to the person and im sure your friend would love to hear that right now (as it is a daunting time for them too).

If you're such good friends it should be implied anyway; still it's always nice to hear the words said. My best friend and I say "I miss you" to each other if we've not seen each other in only a few days! Hugs are nice too. If you're writing then write about the stuff you miss about being with her: add personal details and "in-jokes" to capture your sincerity.

The point i was really meaning was that 'I miss you' just sounds like something polite especially when you write it, rarther than being an exprssion of how you actually feel

I'd go with the slit wrists then.

Thats really not helpful and mildly worrying
I think you should just write how you feel then, it won't sound stupid.
Why don't you tell them what you miss? It's hard to explain but my best friend has just left for uni, and not only do i miss her, but i miss the way she was always two minutes away from me, i miss our random nights out, i miss how we used to laugh about nothing... all those sort of things, so its personal, whilst remembering the good times you shared?
You could elaborate like "I miss those times when we'd go out and get drunk " or you could try to joke about it, "I can't believe I miss your ugly face" or something. Good thing about being a girl, I can just say and it won't sound stupid  It's a problem for you guys though, I can imagine.

...Or just say "I miss you" because would you think he/she is stupid if he/she said it to you? You'd probabl be moved and feel "Awww", not think about how cliche it is. They surely miss you too.

Ah, topical, contains fluffy animals and is cheesy beyond measure, perfect!
are you going to be able to keep in contact with her? say you miss her and beg her to stay in touch
if you want to exaggurate the way you feel rather than it seeming polite then just list your withdrawal symptoms...
