I understand that global markets deals with fixed income and currencies etc, however I was just wondering if it was classified as being under the IBD arm of a bank

Thanks in advance

No, IBD is generally considered to consist of M&A/Advisory/Corporate finance, while Global Markets are part of S&T/Research divisions.
