UCAS payment methods

I've been told that after clicking the 'send to referee' link on the UCAS form, you are brought to some sort of payment page, and you need to pay before the whole process can proceed. I need to complete and send my UCAS form to my referee tomorrow, so I need to know, what payment options are available, so i know which card to take in tomorrow. I know my debit card isn't accepted for some payment sites (eg. UKCAT), and ones like Mastercard or Visa or Maestro etc. are required, so i don't want to be stranded at college tomorrow with no way to pay and getting really stressed etc. So, which debit cards are accepted as payment methods?

i don't really want to finish it now as i'd like to check my PS with my teacher tomorrow before it's sent off, and get one final outburst of criticism followed by a stressful day desperately trying to improve it. And I'm not sure about doing it after college tomorrow, I think they want it done by the end of school hours. :frown:

Do you definitely have to pay once you click 'send to referee'?

that's what someone said to me, no idea if it's accurate, but i'd rather be prepared with the correct card...

It's £5 for applying to one course at one university, or £15 if applying to more than 1

UCAS

Cost of applying

How much will it cost?
If you choose to apply to more than one course, university or college, you need to pay UCAS £15 when you apply. If you apply only to one course at one university or college, you pay £5. Our welcome letter will explain how you can add more choices later.

All applications received at UCAS after 30 June 2007 must have a £15 application fee.

How do I pay?
If you are making your application through your school or college they will let you know how they handle payments.

If you are not making your application through your school or college you will need to make your payment via the internet using a credit or debit card. The card need not be in your own name but you will require the consent of the cardholder.

We accept Visa, Delta, MasterCard, Switch, Solo and Visa Electron credit and debit cards. At the moment we do not accept Maestro (unless issued in the UK), American Express or JCB cards.

When do I need to make my Payment?
You do not need to make your payment until you have completed your application.

Once you have agreed to the terms of the Declaration and Data Protection Statement, you will be asked for your card details if you are paying by this method. It will automatically know whether you should pay the full £15 or the single choice fee of £5.

I don't think so... pretty sure there's an option to pay by cheque. I remember selecting that option last year, handing the appropriate cash sum to my referee, who in turn wrote the cheque on my behalf. You don't absolutely have to make payment once you click that link.

Edit: Ah, there you go. See post above.
My school pay for everyone's UCAS form on their behalf, and then spend six months chasing everyone up for cheques made payable to school.

haha they should do what our school do and not send it until "Mrs Causer in the school office has logged that she has recieved your cheque in the UCAS 2007 log book in her office. Please be sure therefore to pay promptly. Thank you."

The kind little notice we got in our registers lol

From UCAS when I click on the "help" button:

Card Details
The credit and debit cards we accept are Visa, Delta, MasterCard, Switch, Solo and Visa Electron. Currently we do not accept Maestro (unless issued in the UK), American Express or JCB cards.

Maestro, Switch and Solo cards require either the issue number or start date to be entered, which one depending upon the card issuer. The number of digits entered for the issue number must be the same as those on your card, including leading zeros.

The transaction may take a short while to complete - please be patient.

Please note: UCAS does not verify the card details. You must contact your card supplier or bank if your card is not accepted.

If you have any other questions relating to payment, please telephone us on +44 (0) 870 1122211 between the hours of 8.30 am and 6.00 pm (UK time) Monday to Friday.
