Yeah, I would avoid Atkins. As mentioned above, ketogenic dieting can get very unhealthy and lead to the bloodstream becoming very acid and damaging the kidneys, etc.

Having said that, ketogenic diets are generally considered to be the most effective, so rather than doing Atkins, I would suggest a cyclical ketogenic diet, with a carbohydrate refeed day once a week.

Then again, there are plenty of other diets out there which will work without forcing you into ketogenesis.

Diets hardly ever work; I think the healthiest way forward is healthy eating.

1) Exercise a few times a week- Swimming, walking, cycling are the most effective.
2) Eat lots of small meals throughout the day. And make sure you eat breakfast & don’t skip meals.
3) Drink 8 glasses of water a day.
5) Stick to low fat protein foods.
