Scared of STI test!!

I've been wanting to have an STI test for ages and as i'm going to uni in a bit I thought it'd be wise to get it done before I went. I've booked one before but I chickened out and cancelled it because I was scared! My friend has had one done and I asked her about it and she said it was horrible, embarassing and painful.. i've got one booked for tomorrow afternoon but i'm really nervous about going.. I was wondering if any of you girls have been tested and whether it's as bad as my friend says? eeek x

Why are you so desperate for an STI test?
Reply 2
because I want to know if I have any STIs

It's not painful, nor embarrassing.

It doesn't hurt (from what close friends who have had it have told me) and it will settle your mind. The only problem is letting a Dr go down there - but if you've let a guy, a female Dr isn't gonna be difficult?

I dont have any personal experience of this, but i would have thought that finding out you're infertile ten years down the line due to an indetected STI, would be far far more distressing than actually going for the test.

Just a thought.

I know its hard but really try and relax - it'll be a lot more painful if you're all tense. Good luck with it.

aint sti test just like a smear test?
i hear its more painfull for a guy

Not really going to ease your mind though, seeing as there would be the possiblity of other STIs. In fact the single chlamydia test is quite stupid on Boots behalf, as this would lead people into a false sense of security, there are simply too many other STIs.

You have nothing to be worried about, nothing at all. Everyone's perception of going to have an STI test vary and, as I have read on here, seem to build on bad preconceptions and they are ill informed.

Every STI clinic should have a chaperone service, so you do not have to go through it alone, ask yours and find out whether they do this. The doctors and nurses are so understanding at the clinics and they will make you feel at ease.

I applaude you on going to get yourself checked out, only wish other people would do the same but in the end it all comes down to lack of education about STI's (you only have to read some of the topics on here) and bad preconceptions of check ups.

After you have gone you'll not know why you worried so much, trust me on this. You are doing the right thing.

hey thankyou for the reassurance, especially the guy above! I went to get tested today and the nurses and doctors were all really nice and the test was fine.. in fact I found have my blood taken worse as the nurse missed three times in one arm and had to do it in the other arm.. i'm all bruised! so yea just to say if anyone else is worried about going it's not as bad as people make out! x x

not really if chlamidya causes infertility and can be treated easily with pills.

considering the waiting list in some areas for STI tests (i've known people to have to wait 2 months for one) i think it's an amazing idea

and i really doubt they do the test without giving you advice on other STIs and testing. that would be hugely socially irresponsible

Yeah i think the blood tests the worst part (cos i hate needles) but the rest of its fine.

If you do ignoring it and putting your head in sand wont help, if you do have any you may be able to effectively treat it in time before it gets too bad

i thought the urethra swab was the worst....
