Basically what the title entails, is there a difference between a coast and a shore? If so, what are the differences? Read up some online sources that had mentioned that they were different yet some claim them to be the same, thus would like some conclusive statement! Some geography sites also mentioned how coastal protection structures such as the seawalls were built against coasts while some were built against shores so was just wondering whether there's a legit difference!
Thanks so much ((:

A coast is specifically the land bordering a sea or ocean. A shore, on the other hand, is the land bordering any large body of water (seas and oceans included) and can also border a large lake. For instance, Chicago, on the shores of Lake Michigan is not a coastal city as it is inland.
